The World Poultry Foundation (WPF) has taken a significant step towards empowering small-scale poultry farmers in Africa by releasing a comprehensive set of free training materials focused on the critical aspects of feeding and watering chickens.
World Poultry Foundation is offering free training materials for small-scale poultry farmers in Africa. These modules focus on best practices for feeding and watering chickens, helping farmers ensure their flocks are healthy and productive.
Randall Ennis, chief executive officer of the World Poultry Foundation (WFF) said the available materials are free in multiple languages and presented as videos, infographics, and flip charts for use by training and development organisations.
The importance of poultry training
“The training module is part of a series released by WPF to help Africa’s small-scale poultry farmers improve their farming methods and incomes,” Ennis said.
He explained the reason for focusing on small-scale poultry farmers is that they lack information and resources to ensure their chicks are well cared for. Their operations are the only source of income that keeps them going hence the focus on them.

“The training module is part of a series released by WPF to help Africa’s small-scale poultry farmers improve their farming methods and incomes,” Angelo said.
He urged small-scale poultry farmers to immerse themselves in the information that will help them move to the commercial phase as that would ensure that they are sustainable and able to keep their operations running for a long period and deal with bio-security issues effectively.
What is covered in the training
Ennis shared that the training module on water and feed explains how to ensure these foraging birds get the food and water they need to thrive.
Additionally, the module covers essential practices to ensure chickens have adequate food and water for optimal health and productivity.
Ennis said the modules are designed to help small-scale poultry producers grow healthy birds that improve the nutritional status of their families and communities, and their incomes.
“The launch of the series shows our commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable poultry value chains that benefit both farmers and consumers, Ennis said.
