In a warm address to the agricultural value chain, agriculture minister John Steenhuisen expresses deep gratitude for the tireless efforts of those providing South Africa’s food and fibre. Emphasising the government’s commitment to standing by the sector, he encourages farmers to pause and celebrate their resilience ahead of new opportunities in 2026.

To our incredible farmers and dedicated farm workers, and every person in the agriculture value chain:

As the year draws to a close and the December spirit is in the air, we want to take a moment to send you our deepest gratitude and warmest wishes.

We know this has been an exceptionally tough year. Whether facing unpredictable weather, volatile markets, or just the sheer, relentless hard work required in this sector, you have met every obstacle head-on with resilience and unwavering commitment. We have seen your struggle, and we want you to know that we have been, and will be, with you every step of the way.

The food on our tables, the fibres in our clothes, and the foundation of our communities rest on your tireless efforts. You are the heartbeat of this nation.

Please take this time to pause, rest, reflect, and celebrate the Festive Season with your loved ones. My hope is that you find renewed hope and strength in the coming days.

The new season brings new opportunities, as well as new challenges, and we look forward to forging ahead with you in 2026.
With heartfelt thanks and respect.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
