Propak Africa 2025, one of the continent’s biggest trade shows for packaging, printing, food processing, and labelling, is set to be a game-changer.

Happening just once every three years, Mark Anderson, portfolio director for Propak Africa, says the event is where industry leaders, innovators, buyers, and sellers connect to do business.

“The exhibition is a prime opportunity to discover the latest innovations, witness live demonstrations, and really an opportunity to connect with key industry players,” Anderson explained.

Last held in 2022, this year’s exhibition will take place between 11 – 14 March 2025 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. It is set to be bigger and better than ever, with over 500 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of products, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative services.

From packaging and printing to plastics, food processing, and labelling, the event promises to be a dynamic hub of industry expertise and fresh ideas.

What’s shaping Mzansi’s packaging industry

According to Anderson, the South African packaging industry is influenced by a range of factors. These include competition, urbanisation, evolving consumer preferences, technology advancements, and sustainability concerns.

“Rising energy and raw material costs have further highlighted the need for energy-efficient automated production lines for improving quality control, reducing waste, and minimising human error.”

For agricultural businesses focused on food processing, packaging, or distribution, Propak Africa 2025 offers unparalleled opportunities.

“As the food and beverage industry grows, so does the demand for safe, traceable food packaging solutions. Visitors to Propak can explore advanced industrial weighing and product inspection solutions designed to enhance product safety, maintain quality, and protect brand integrity,” Anderson explained.

Also, sustainability remains at the forefront of this year’s event, with many exhibitors showcasing the latest machinery, products, materials, systems, and solutions.

These are set to address sustainability and eco-friendly practices and visitors will have the opportunity to talk to technical experts about the latest innovations.

Expert-led seminars covering key topics

In addition to product showcases, the event features two seminar theatres hosting over 60 expert speakers covering key topics in packaging, food processing, and printing, with sustainability as a central theme.

“We partner with key industry associations within the packaging sector. The Institute of Packaging SA will present three half-day conferences focused on pressing industry challenges, including packaging technology advancements, ERP regulations, and food safety packaging solutions,” Anderson added.

Attendees can also look forward to notable speakers addressing critical industry issues. These include Peet Grobler, sales director and head of food safety and hygiene at the OFT Group, Stuart Rigby from DC Norris and Company, and Rob Penney, programme manager at Synertech.

With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and industry growth, Propak Africa 2025 promises to be an essential event for industry professionals looking to stay ahead of the curve.

The four-day event offers invaluable learning opportunities, networking, and access to the latest advancements shaping the future of packaging, processing, and distribution industries.
